Welcome to Week 4 of the Holiday Countdown!

** HOLIDAY OFFER: Single Session Advising Call with Exclusive 20% Discount until 12/31. See details at the end of this email. **

Thanksgiving week is here. However you are choosing to celebrate this holiday, I hope that you find moments of peace for yourself and are able to smile when you think of a holiday memory with your late partner. I know this will be a hard week, which is why I created this calendar—to help ease some of those burdens with these reminders.

Don’t worry if you are just joining in this week, that is OK. Here is the link to what we have covered if you would like to take a look back, or you can just jump in today.

Since there are some newcomers to the Holiday Countdown Calendar, I wanted to introduce myself. I am Jody LaVoie, grief and loss expert, widow, mom and widow coach. I am a firm believer that your loss does not need to define you. You can fall in love with your life again. If you would like to learn more about my widow journey, please click here.

Last week we talked about:

  • Doing the things
  • Taking care of you
  • Setting expectations

Remember to keep the intention that you set for this holiday in mind every day so you can keep focused and grounded on your north star.  This will help to lead you to your finish line.

I am here to guide you every step of the way. Together, we've got this.  💪🏻

On to the nitty gritty of the week. Here is what I would like you to think about this week:

Week 4:
The Messy Middle:
Tackling Thanksgiving

November 24-30

November 25:

Execute.  Last week  was all about ordering and planning. This week is about doing. Since you pre-planned and determined who is going to help you, hopefully the doing is less stressful. Set the table in advance. Do the cooking or the buying that you planned for this week.

Make sure you are asking for the help you need. You don’t need to do it all. If you have children, they can help too.

November 27:

Find peace. This is my reminder to you that taking care of you is the most important. This is a busy week. Keep up with your exercise. Maybe light a scented candle or other aromatherapy, take a bath—create your own mini oasis, play music that you enjoy. You can do this any time. I know so many of my widow clients retreat to their bedroom and close the door to find a few quiet moments for themselves.

If there are chaotic moments that happen, do what you need to find a small oasis of peace for yourself.

November 29:

Check in.  Do a check-in with yourself and others. This may have been your first Thanksgiving without your loved one. The firsts are always hard. It will get easier, but each Thanksgiving will continue to bring up feelings and emotions for you and everyone who knew your loved one. Ask yourself the questions: How did it go for me? Check in with your children. How are they doing emotionally? How did any changes in traditions go? Did that work for you and everyone involved?

Plan what you might do next year while it’s still fresh in your mind.
